Scotland - June 2002
In June 2002 Gary Jools and I headed up to the Highlands for some hillwalking and wild camping in the hills near Rannoch station and around Ben Alder.
Sadly we were also there to scatter Gary's father ashes. I don't remember much of the trip now, it's been a few years, although I do remember that my 1984 VW polo, which we drove all the way up from Salisbury, had never seen such action as the three of us with all our kit, plus it had a faulty rebreather (well, actually none, it instead had a hose that poured into an old oil pot tied with rope under the bonnet) that got us through 5 litres of oil on the drive up. I also remember Jools, on taking the wheel for a bit saying "I thought you were a very cautious driver, [who started braking early] you could have said that the car has no brakes!", and finally Jools and I persuading all the customers at the Clachaig to drink to Gary's dad.
