A slight change from the usual mountaineering content of my site; for our honeymoon Kelly and I visited New York followed by a trip across Canada from Vancouver to Calgary.

The photos here (below) start with Grouse Mountain, Vancouver, which was Kelly's first outing in the snow since a serious accident whilst skiing in the Czech Republic. I would love to say that the blurry photo of the wolf at the end was taken whilst in the wilds, but there's a wolf enclosure at the base of the mountain (for wolf photos see my Feb 2007 page).

The next set of photos showing a seldom seen landscape (much of it can only be seen from the train) are from our trip to Jasper. We travelled from Vancouver to Jasper on VIA Rail's cross continent sleeper service The Canadian.

In Jasper we stayed at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, which was wonderful, and yes that is an outdoor heated pool (which we used at night whilst the temperature was -4°C). The Jasper photos also show some pictures from the bus ride to Lake Louise.

And that is where the gallery ends. We spent several days at the Fairmont Chateu Lake Louise, which is a truly wonderful place to stay, and is a pretty special place for Kelly and I as it was the last place we stayed on our honeymoon.

The hotel is at 1755m, the temperature never got above -9°C, and got as low as -20°C, the snow was like icing sugar and the views amazing. The photos were taken from our room, whilst on a hike around the lake, whilst on a night-time sleigh ride, and on a hike up to 2000m on a nearby peak.
