Crag Extreme Rucksac Guide

[Image of a water filled rucksac]

Whilst deciding to buy a new Berghaus Crag Extrem Rucksac I read a comment from someone who had yet to work out how to turn it into a bumbag (a fanny-pack for those Americans amongst you). When I got my Crag I was dismayed to learn that there was no manual, and no apparent way to make a bumbag. Also, being a user of Ortileb drybags as rucksac liners, I was a bit dubious of the Dry Fusion technology.

I did however, by chance, work out how to use the detachable bumbag. First of all detach the lid, that's the easy part. Then push your hand past the side of the hip-belt, you will find that it is held on with velcro, and once you have undone the side-straps (the ones used to pull the base of the pack closer to your back) you can pull out the hip-belt. Turning it and the lid into a bumbag should now be obvious.

As far as the Dry Fusion went I decided to fill the pack with water. It was completely watertight, until it was almost full, when a few small drops forced their way out at the base of the main compartment, but that was with almost 1m submersion! I used the pack in Scotland and found that I did not need drybags at all. However you should still take some carrier bags with you to pack wet kit, because once water gets into that pack it doesn't come out.

Also be careful pulling the draw string, its a little more fragile than it first looks.
