Bourne Valley Summer Camp 1995
Summer 1995 was my first Venture Scout Summer Camp, and my first trip to the mountains. Mr and Mrs H (Harris) were our leaders (I seem to have completely failed to find any piccies of them) and we stayed in an open field with an outdoor chemical toilet, which made things interesting as we were there for one of the hottest summers on record. I've lost my original photo albums so the piccies here were taken from 10 year old negatives, hence the slightly poor quality.
Stragely enough I had a great time, sadly there are some things I can barely remember, The Walk Without Mr and Mrs H (written on the back of some of the left over photos I scanned), a trip to Llanberis, and lots of photos taken about camp, I think, but I don't really know when or why these were taken. I do however remember the trip we made to the Festiniog Mountain Railway, when I chopped wood all day.
Of course I do remember the first time I climbed a mountain, Snowdon. Due to the day time heat we started off well before dawn, hence missing the usual summer tourist queues and crowds from the train, something I discovered in later years was well worth it.
I also remember the first time I slept on top of a mountain, Y-Gain, only a few days later. We headed up just before sunset from the YHA at the base of Devils Kitchen, slept on top (with sunset and dawn photos of course, as well as Gareth doing some promotional photos for his music, hence the guitar) and then headed down just after dawn via Glyder Fawr and Glyder Fach (I think, that bits a little fuzzy).
